A curb bit is a variety of bit, which is a part of the bridle that goes in the mouth of the horse, that uses lever action. It consists of mouthpiece, curb chain and shank. It has one ring on each side of the purchase arm of the shank and one on the bottom for the lever arm of the shank.

Perpendicular Bat Rolling

Perpendicular bat rolling is a process that rolls a softball or baseball bat through two nylon or hard rubber rollers. This rolling process will roll the entire length of the bat as it passes through the rollers on approximately a half inch line on both the top and bottom of the bat. The bat is rolled on 8-12 points around the bat which breaks in almost the entire bat as it passes through the rolling machine. The bat will make a slight crunching sound to an all out crackle and pop when going through the rollers. The sound depends on the type of bat and the bat’s thickness. If the bat has a thinner wall the bat will tend to pop or crackle sooner than a thicker walled bat. Certain bats can take more pressure than others during rolling. The key is to know how much pressure to place on the bat or the thinner walled bats will break during the bat rolling process. A Miken Freak, slowpitch softball bat, is able to with stand a lot of pressure and also needs that extra pressure to be fully broken in during rolling. TPS bats have a thinner wall and need less pressure when rolling, too much pressure will definitely break a bat in one pass going through perpendicularly.

When the bat is rolled perpendicularly along too many points the area of the bat gets rolled twice, thrice, or maybe 4 times too much causing weak spots in your bat. Perpendicular rolling will break in your bat but not to its fullest potential; that is where the parallel rolling comes in.

Parallel Bat Rolling

Parallel bat rolling is a process that rolls the traditional sweet spot of the bat. As you could guess the bat is placed parallel with the bat rollers. The theory behind this is that the entire sweet spot of the bat would be rolled with out missing any areas within the sweet spot. Some bat rolling machine builders have taken the idea a little too far by expanding the length of their rollers to encompass almost the entire barrel. This type of bat roller is destined to cause problems. The area that is rolled is too large and will cause a decrease and an increase in pressure along the barrel. What do I mean, you ask? The mechanics of a bat roller with longer rollers will not allow for consistent pressure points along the barrel. Depending where the mechanism is placed to tighten the rollers down is where the most pressure will be on the bat and then diminish as it goes down the length of the bat. This means the composite will be broken in more in certain spots and not in others. Trying to break the bat in fully with a longer bat rolling machine could compromise the integrity of the bat in certain areas. The rollers that surround the sweet spot only are shorter and have a small disproportioned distribution of pressure which breaks in a bat more consistent.

The parallel rolling machine should be used after it is run through a perpendicular rolling machine. This will allow the parallel rolling machine to break in any spots the perpendicular rolling machine has missed. The peaks and valleys that were discussed earlier will be flattened out by breaking up the resin and glue in those areas. This is the most consistent and even bat rolling you can accomplish. As a stand alone the parallel bat roller will work, as long as it has the shorter rollers (around a foot, which is the length of a sweet spot). The longer rollers will not roll a bat consistently and there is the danger of breaking a bat with an over zealous operator trying desperately to break in the entire barrel the same.

With all that said, I would suggest getting your bat rolled with a parallel rolling machine with shorter rollers which also does a perpendicular roll first. Go ahead and ask who ever does the rolling if this is the way they roll to get a better sense of security. And if you are buying a rolling machine make sure to get the parallel one with the shorter rollers.

The cousins White-Tailed Deer, or otherwise known as the Virginia Deer, and the Muley, or Mule Deer, are two of the well known species the lives in the American plains. Though somewhat similar in physical attributes for those who aren’t acquainted with the species, there are some minute differences that allow you to separate the two.

During the hunting season, it is beneficial for the hunter to know the physical differences between the two cousins. Aside from separating the Muley and the White-Tail deer, they can also proceed to the location of each since both of them have different habitats.

The Physical Difference Says It All

One notable difference between the White-tails and the muleys are the color of their tails and their antlers; the tail of the Mule Deer is black-tipped unlike its white-tipped cousin (hence the name White-Tail).

The antler of the White-Tailed deer has two probable formations: the first one is the typical antlers where the points group straight up from the main beam and are symmetrical on both sides. The non-typical antlers are asymmetrical and the points branch off in different directions off from the main beam. The Mule Deer’s antlers tend to fork rather than branching off from a single beam. Both species shed their antlers during winter, between the months December and February.

One noticeable difference of the two cousins are their coats during the summer and spring seasons. The Muley’s coat has a light orange-brown color unlike the White-Tails reddish brown. Upon the onset of fall and winter, the coat of the white-tail turns to a grayish-brown and the Muley’s changes into a darker version of their white-tailed cousins.

The Muleys are considerably larger their cousin. Wherein the bucks of the Mule deer weighs roughly 150 to 300 pounds and its white-tailed cousins which weighs around 130 to 220 pounds. Considering their weight difference, size is also a major factor in determining the muley from the white-tailed.

Know Where The Deer Lives

As with their physical description, so does their habitat differs. The White-Tailed deer are often found in the east of the American cordillera. It is known to settle and survive in aspen parklands and Bottomland Rivers in the Central and Northern Great Plains. The Mule Deer on the other hand settled in the land west of the Missouri river.

Difference In Behavior

When seeing a Muley in flight, you will notice that they often move slotting rather than alternate movements on all 4 legs. Slotting is a bounding leap with all four feet coming together at once. The white-tailed deer are often seen running on all fours.

The does of the White-tailed deer are more cautious compared to the muleys. When threatened, the white-tipped tails of the does are often seen raising during escape.

If a player hits in another ball before their cue ball, the opponent may remove two of their own balls and drop them in their own pocket.

If a player makes a ball leave the bumper pool table, the opponent can place the ball anywhere they want on the table and depending on the house rules may be able to remove two of their own balls and place them in their own pocket. A player can help a player get closer to winning the game if they shot their own ball into their opponents pocket or jump balls or bumpers giving the opponent a chance to remove two of their balls and place them in their pocket. However, if a player knocks his opponent’s ball into his opponent’s pocket, no penalty is given. The first player to get rid of all their balls wins the game.
